Anuradhapura, the ancient capital, is renowned for its well-preserved ruins, including stupas like Ruwanwelisaya and the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, a tree believed to be over 2,000 years old. Polonnaruwa, another historic marvel, served as a medieval capital and features impressive archaeological sites such as Gal Vihara, known for its stunning rock-carved Buddha statues.
